Ingredients

  • 1 large parsnip

Instructions

  • Peel the parsnips and slice them into thin, even rounds or strips. The thinner the slice, the crispier the chips will be. If you use a mandolin be very careful not to slice your fingers!
  • Optional rinse: Lightly rinse and pat dry to remove excess starch for a better crunch.

Air Fryer Method

  • Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  • Place the parsnip slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding so they crisp evenly.
  • Cook for 12–15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. Keep an eye on them during the last few minutes, as thinner slices can brown quickly.
  • Transfer the chips to a cooling rack or plate and let them cool fully before serving to your dog.
  • Offer a few chips as a crunchy, wholesome treat!

Oven Method

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C)
  • Prepare the parsnip as above.
  • Lay the slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer.
  • Bake for 35–50 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Remove once golden and crisp, then let cool completely before serving.

Dehydrator Instructions

  • Prepare the parsnip as above.
  • Arrange slices on dehydrator trays without overlapping.
  • Arrange slices on dehydrator trays without overlapping.
  • Dry for 6–8 hours, or until the chips are fully dried and crisp.
  • Allow to cool completely before storing or serving.

Notes

Makes 15-20 chips. For most dogs, that’s roughly 2–4 servings of treats.
Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to 1 week. Cool completely before storing to keep chips crisp.
