Are Parsnips Good For Dogs?

Yes, parsnips are generally good for dogs when fed in moderation. Theyโ€™re a safe, nutritious root vegetable packed with fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants that support digestion and overall health. Just be sure to serve them plain and cookedโ€”air-fried, roasted, or lightly steamedโ€”as raw parsnips can be harder to digest. Avoid adding salt or seasonings, and introduce them slowly, especially for dogs with sensitive stomachs or those watching their sugar or carb intake. Overall, parsnips make a healthy, crunchy treat option for most pups.

Ingredients

All you need to make these vegetable chips for dogs is parsnips. You could add a dash of olive or coconut oil but thatโ€™s entirely optional.

Air fry until golden and crispy.

Recipe Tips

Slice evenly: Use a mandolin or sharp knife to cut thin, uniform slices so the chips cook at the same rate.

Donโ€™t overcrowd: Air fry in batches for the crispiest results. Too many slices at once can cause steaming instead of crisping.

Watch the edges: Thin slices can brown quickly, so keep an eye on the chips during the last few minutes of cooking.

No oil needed: Parsnips crisp nicely on their own, making them a healthier, low-fat dog treat.

Cool fully: Let chips cool completely to finish crisping and avoid trapping moisture during storage.

Go thicker for chewier chips: If your dog prefers softer treats, cut slightly thicker slices and reduce the cook time.

Storage Instructions

  • Room temperature: Store cooled parsnip chips in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • Refrigerator: Keep in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
  • Re-crisping: If chips soften, you can return them to the air fryer for a few minutes to restore crunchiness.
  • Avoid moisture: Make sure the chips are completely cooled before storing to prevent sogginess or mold.
