CAN DOGS EAT COTTAGE CHEESE?

If your dog has no allergies to dairy, it can be given cottage cheese. It's a safe food to give your dog, especially if they require a bland diet.

It can be given to your dog straight from the tub and added to their food. Or you can make a homemade dog treat with it.

Remember to go slowly when introducing new foods. And we recommend checking with your veterinarian first if your dog has any digestive issues or other health concerns.

WHAT KIND OF COTTAGE CHEESE FOR DOGS

You may see many cottage cheese flavors in your stores but only plain cottage cheese should be given to your dog.

Some of the flavored cottage cheese may contain ingredients that are toxic to your dogs (for example, onion). Pineapple is safe though and is a great source of fiber.

Cottage cheese should be no more than 10% of your dog’s daily food intake, which is about a couple of tablespoons for a medium-sized dog.

If you are giving your dog low fat cottage cheese, check the label for any added sugar or artificial sweeteners.

  • A great probiotic
