A glass jar filled with round, golden oat biscuits sits on a grey surface, with three biscuits placed in front of the jar. A blue and white striped cloth is in the background.

Our dogs loved these homemade treats and seem to enjoy the slightly soft texture. I think it was the smell of the pumpkin too that had Teddy interested as I was baking them. One of my dogs has cataracts and both the carrots and pumpkin are carotene-rich foods which can help with eye health. They won’t reverse the cataracts or change anything but are just a helpful boost as part of a nutritious diet.

Ingredients

Just 4 simple ingredients make these easy pumpkin carrot dog treats.

A flat lay of ingredients including pumpkin purée, oat flour, grated carrot, and an egg, each labelled, arranged on a white surface.

Pumpkin Purée
Pumpkin is rich in fiber and great for digestion, making it a fantastic base for dog treats. It also adds moisture and a naturally sweet flavor your dog will enjoy. Use plain pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling.

Carrot
Carrots provide a boost of vitamins like beta-carotene and add a subtle crunch and sweetness. They’re also low in calories, making them perfect for healthy treats.

Egg
Eggs act as a binding ingredient while adding protein and essential nutrients. They help hold the dough together and contribute to the treats’ structure.

Oat Flour
Oat flour is a gentle, gluten-free option that’s easy on your dog’s stomach. It gives the treats their body and texture while keeping them soft and slightly chewy. Making your own oat flour is easy and cheap too!

How To Make Pumpkin Carrot Dog Treats

We found this mixture to be a bit too moist to roll out and cut out shapes so made them into cookie shapes.

Add all ingredients into a mixing bowl.

Recipe Tips

If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more oat flour. If it’s too dry, mix in a splash of water or a bit more pumpkin purée.

Finely grated carrot blends better into the dough and helps the treats hold together more easily.

If you want to be able to roll the dough and cut out cookie shapes, try adding more flour until you have a firmer dough. Roll out in between parchment paper for less sticky mess.

For a crunchier treat, leave them in the oven a little longer at a lower temperature to dry out.
