Ingredients

Just 6 ingredients make these homemade dog treats.

Ingredients on a marble countertop: grated carrots, oat flour, chicken livers, pumpkin puree, parsley, and an egg.

Chicken livers: Rich in protein, iron, and essential vitamins like A and B12, chicken livers provide a nutritional boost for your pup.
Pumpkin puree: High in fiber and low in calories, pumpkin supports healthy digestion and adds a touch of natural sweetness. You can easily make a batch of pumpkin puree using Native Pet Organic Pumpkin for Dogs. It’s a mess free way of giving your pups pumpkin puree without the can.
Grated carrot: Carrots are loaded with beta-carotene and vitamin A, promoting healthy skin and vision for your dog.
Parsley: This herb freshens breath and contains antioxidants, adding a light, refreshing flavor.
Egg: A great source of protein and healthy fats, the egg helps bind the dough while adding extra nutrients.
Oat flour: Gluten-free and gentle on sensitive stomachs, oat flour provides a hearty base for the biscuits. We make our own oat flour by grinding oats in a food processor. Other dog friendly flours can be substituted.

Recipe Tips

Depending on the moisture content of your pumpkin and chicken liver, you may need slightly more or less oat flour. Add it slowly until the dough is firm but not dry.

Use cookie cutters in fun shapes like bones or paws to make the treats more appealingโ€”or simply cut into easy-to-handle squares for convenience. The dough is fairly sticky and we found circle shapes easier to deal with than the bone shapes.

If your dog prefers crunchier biscuits, bake them a little longer or leave them in the oven after turning it off to dry further. For softer biscuits, reduce baking time slightly.

Switch up the grated carrot with finely chopped spinach, zucchini, or apples (in moderation) for a bit of variety while keeping it dog-safe.

Dog Treat Storage

Store the biscuits in an airtight container and keep in the fridge. They will last up to 7 to 10 days.

Freezing Treats

Freeze the biscuits in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months. To prevent sticking, place a piece of parchment paper between layers of biscuits.

When ready to serve, thaw the treats at room temperature for about 30 minutes or warm them slightly in the microwave (just a few seconds) for added appeal.

Always check for any signs of mold or an off smell before giving the treats to your dog. Discard any that seem spoiled.
