Ingredients

Just five ingredients made this easy liver treat recipe.

Bowl of oat flour, ground flaxseed, pumpkin purée, lamb liver, and a whole egg arranged on a white surface; each ingredient is labelled.

Lamb Liver – A nutrient powerhouse, lamb liver is rich in high-quality protein, iron, and essential vitamins like A and B12. It supports energy levels, immune health, and a shiny coat.

Pumpkin PureePumpkin is fantastic for digestion thanks to its natural fibre content. It can help regulate your dog’s tummy and is especially helpful for sensitive stomachs. Do not use pumpkin pie filling as that has spices that are not dog friendly.

Oat Flour – A gentle, gluten-free alternative to wheat flour, oat flour is easy to digest and provides slow-releasing energy—great for active pups.

Ground Flaxseed – Flaxseed adds omega-3 fatty acids, which support healthy skin, a glossy coat, and joint health.

Egg – Eggs are a complete protein source and help bind the ingredients together while adding extra nutrients like amino acids and healthy fats.

How To Make Lamb Liver Dog Treats

We roll out the dough, cut out shapes and bake but you could roll the mixture into balls and flatten too.

Recipe Tips

For the best texture, blend the lamb liver into a smooth purée before mixing. This helps distribute the flavour evenly and prevents chunks that can make shaping difficult.

If the dough is too sticky add a little more oat flour (1 tablespoon at a time). If the dough is too dry, add a splash of water or more pumpkin puree.

Roll the dough to an even thickness (about ¼ inch) so the treats bake uniformly. Thinner treats will be crispier; thicker ones will be softer.

Bake until firm but not rock-hard. Overbaking can reduce nutrients and make them too tough—especially for smaller or older dogs.

If your dog hasn’t had lamb liver before, start with a small amount to ensure it agrees with their stomach.

Storage Instructions

Refrigerator (Recommended)

  • Store the treats in an airtight container in the fridge
  • They will stay fresh for 5–7 days
  • Because these treats contain fresh lamb liver and egg, refrigeration is important to prevent spoilage

Freezer (Best for Longer Storage)

  • Place treats in a freezer-safe bag or container
  • Freeze for up to 2–3 months
  • You can portion them out to make defrosting easier

How to Thaw

  • Remove a few treats at a time and let them thaw in the fridge overnight
  • For a quick option, leave them at room temperature for 20–30 minutes

Optional: For Longer Shelf Life

  • Bake a little longer or air dry after baking to reduce moisture
  • Drier treats can last slightly longer but should still be stored in the fridge or freezer

Signs They’ve Gone Bad

  • Sour or unusual smell
  • Visible mould
  • Slimy or overly soft texture
