Are Carrots Good For Dogs?
Yes — carrots are an excellent snack ingredient for dogs. They are low in calories, naturally sweet, and rich in nutrients such as beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A. Vitamin A supports healthy vision, skin, and immune function. Carrots also contain fibre, which can help support healthy digestion. Many dogs enjoy the crunchy texture and mild sweetness of carrots, making them a popular addition to homemade treats.

Ingredients
Just 4 ingredients make these easy dog treats.

Cooked Ground Chicken
Chicken is a lean source of protein that helps support strong muscles and provides essential amino acids for your dog’s overall health. Using cooked ground chicken also gives these treats a delicious savoury flavour dogs love.
Egg
Egg acts as a natural binder in the recipe while adding extra protein, vitamins, and healthy fats. It helps create a firm, bakeable dough and contributes to a satisfying texture.
Finely Grated Carrot
Carrots add natural sweetness, fibre, and a boost of vitamins to these treats. Finely grating the carrot helps it blend evenly into the dough and keeps the treats nicely textured.
Oat Flour
Oat flour is a gentle, gluten-free alternative to wheat flour that works wonderfully in homemade dog treats. It helps bind the ingredients together while adding fibre and a soft, slightly chewy texture. Making your own oat flour is just as simple as grinding rolled oats in a food processor until you have a fine flour. Cheaper too!!
How To Make Chicken and Carrot Dog Treats
The ground chicken is cooked ahead of making these dog treat. We rolled the mixture into balls but if you wanted to roll the mixture out and cut into shapes, add more oat flour for a rollable dough.

Add all ingredients into a mixing bowl.

Mix well and scoop into balls.

Place onto a baking tray and bake for 15-20 minutes.

Cool and give as a treat.
Recipe Tips
- Use finely grated carrot so it mixes evenly throughout the dough.
- If the dough feels too sticky, add a little extra oat flour until it becomes easy to handle.
- For crunchier treats, bake a few minutes longer and allow them to cool completely in the oven with the door slightly open.
- These treats can be made into small training bites or larger biscuit shapes depending on your dog’s size.

Storage Instructions
Because these homemade chicken and carrot dog treats contain fresh meat and egg, they should be stored properly to keep them fresh and safe for your dog.
Refrigerator
Store the treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Allow the treats to cool completely before storing to help prevent excess moisture from building up.
Freezer
For longer storage, place the treats in a freezer-safe container or bag and freeze for up to 3 months. You can thaw a few treats at a time in the refrigerator overnight before serving.
For Crunchier Treats
If you prefer a crunchier texture that lasts slightly longer, bake the treats a little longer at a lower temperature to remove more moisture. Even then, homemade meat-based treats should still be refrigerated.
Serving Tip
Always check treats for freshness before serving, especially during warmer weather. If the treats develop an unusual smell or texture, discard them.
