Cantaloupe Dog Ice Cream

Spread the love

This cantaloupe dog ice cream recipe is a simple, wholesome way to help your dog beat the heat while giving them a treat that’s actually good for them. With just two ingredients and a few minutes of prep, you’ll have a batch of frozen goodness ready whenever your pup needs to cool down.

Unlike store-bought dog ice cream, which can be loaded with unnecessary sugars, fillers, or preservatives, this homemade version gives you full control over what goes into your dog’s bowl. It’s a great option for pet parents looking for easy DIY dog treats that take only a few minutes of prep.

A couple of our dogs are not keen on cantaloupe by itself but happily ate this ice cream, which I can only assume is because of their love of Greek yogurt! Their greedy selves tried to eat this whole from the serving cups, rather than lick the ice cream. They can be a nightmare trying to video them eating nicely!

Why Dogs Love This Ice Cream

Dogs often enjoy the cool, creamy texture of frozen treats, especially during the summer months. Cantaloupe has a naturally sweet flavor without needing any added sugar, while Greek yogurt creates a smooth, ice cream-like consistency. Together this makes a great dog ice cream recipe.

Frozen treats also provide:

  • Cooling relief on hot days
  • Mental enrichment
  • Longer-lasting treats when served in enrichment toys
  • A fun reward after exercise

Are Cantaloupe and Greek Yogurt Safe for Dogs?

Yes! Both ingredients are generally safe for most healthy dogs when fed in moderation.

Cantaloupe contains vitamins, antioxidants, fiber, and plenty of moisture. Always remove the rind and seeds before using it.

Plain Greek yogurt provides protein, calcium, and beneficial probiotics. Choose an unsweetened, plain Greek yogurt with no added sugar or artificial sweeteners.

Never use yogurt containing xylitol, which is extremely toxic to dogs.
