Recipe Tips

  • Choose the Right Salmon: Always use canned salmon packed in water with no added salt, spices, or oils. Check the label to ensure it’s safe for pets.
  • Make Them Smaller: Use mini silicone molds or small ice cube trays to create bite-sized portions that are easier for your cat to eat.
  • Add a Touch of Variety: If your cat enjoys a little variety, you can occasionally blend in a teaspoon of plain pumpkin puree or a few catnip leaves for extra flavor and benefits.
  • For Sensitive Stomachs: If your cat is new to fish treats, start with a small serving to see how they tolerate it.
  • Use a Squeeze Bottle: Pouring the mixture into molds can get messyโ€”transfer it to a squeeze bottle to make filling the molds easier and neater.
  • Keep It Clean: Always wash your molds and utensils thoroughly after handling fish to avoid any lingering odors or bacteria.

Storage

Store the frozen salmon treats in an airtight container or zip-top freezer bag for up to 2 months in the freezer. Serve straight from the freezerโ€”no thawing needed! A great treat when the sun suddenly comes out and turns up the heat!

How May Treats Does This Recipe Make?

This recipe makes approximately 20โ€“25 small frozen treats, depending on the size of your molds.

For frozen salmon cat treats, 1โ€“2 small treats per serving is a good guideline, depending on your catโ€™s size and overall diet.

These treats should be given occasionally and in moderationโ€”they’re meant as a supplement to your catโ€™s regular food, not a replacement. Always monitor your cat for any signs of allergies or digestive issues when introducing new treats.
