Is Lamb Good for Dogs?
Lamb can be a good protein source for dogs, as long as it’s included as part of a balanced diet. Lamb is rich in protein and provides essential amino acids that dogs need for muscle maintenance and overall health. Lamb contains essential nutrients such as iron, zinc, and vitamin B12, which are important for various bodily functions in dogs. Iron supports oxygen transport in the blood, zinc aids in immune function and wound healing, and vitamin B12 contributes to energy metabolism and neurological health.
For dogs with grain sensitivities or allergies, ground lamb provides a grain-free alternative that is easily digestible and less likely to trigger adverse reactions.

- Coconut oil – oconut oil can aid digestion and promote gastrointestinal health in dogs. It has antimicrobial properties that may help combat harmful bacteria and yeast in the gut, reducing the risk of digestive issues such as diarrhea and constipation.

How to Make This Ground Lamb Dog Food Recipe

Cook the ground lamb in the coconut oil.

Add the liver and cook.

Add the finely chopped vegetables, turmeric, ginger and sardines.

Cook, cool and serve.
Storage
After preparing the dog food, allow it to cool to room temperature before refrigerating. Transfer the cooled food into airtight containers or resealable bags to prevent contamination and spoilage. Store the containers in the refrigerator. Use refrigerated dog food within 3-4 days to ensure freshness and safety.
Freezing
If you’ve made a large batch or want to store the dog food for an extended period, you can freeze it. Portion the cooled dog food into freezer-safe containers or resealable bags, removing as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. Label each container with the date and contents. Frozen dog food can be stored for several months, but it’s best to use it within 2-3 months for optimal quality.
When ready to serve, thaw the frozen dog food in the refrigerator overnight. Alternatively, you can thaw individual portions in the microwave using a defrost setting, being careful not to overheat the food.

While simmering the ingredients together is convenient, consider varying the cooking methods for different vegetables. For example, steam or lightly sautรฉ some vegetables to retain their crunchiness and nutrients.
