Recipe Tips
- Cut evenly: Slice the sweet potato sticks and chicken strips to similar thickness so they cook through and dry evenly.
- Pat dry before wrapping: Get rid of the excess moisture from the sweet potato so the chicken sticks cling better and you won’t end up with soggy spots.
- Use lean chicken breast: It cooks evenly and gives a nice chewy texture without packing on the fat.
- Cook low and slow: Whether you’re baking, air frying, or dehydrating, lower temps let moisture escape gradually and help you end up with a longer-lasting treat.
- Adjust times by size: Thicker sticks will need a bit more time to dry out completely.
Storage Tips
- Refrigerate: Once cooled, store treats in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
- Freeze for long-term storage: Put treats in a freezer-safe bag or container and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw before serving.
- Keep dry: If the treats are fully dehydrated, store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks in a cool, dry place.
- Avoid moisture: Always make sure the treats are completely cooled before sealing-any trapped moisture can cause mold.
- Check before serving: If a treat looks soft, smells sour, or shows any sign of mold, discard it immediately.
