Are blackberries safe for dogs?

Yes, blackberries are safe for dogs to eat in moderation. They are low in calories and sugar, and rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants which can be beneficial for dogs. Blackberries also contain fiber, which can help with digestion. However, it’s important to give them to your dog in moderation as too much can cause stomach upset. Always ensure that the blackberries are washed and free of any pesticides or chemicals before feeding them to your dog.

What is spirulina?

Spirulina is generally considered safe and can be beneficial for dogs when used as a supplement in their diet. It’s a type of blue-green algae that is rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Storage

Use airtight containers or zip-lock freezer bags to store the treats. Removing as much air as possible from the bags will help prevent freezer burn. You can also wrap the treats individually in parchment paper before placing them in the bag or container, which helps prevent them from sticking together.

Instructions

  • Wash the blackberries and pat dry.
  • In a blender or food processor, combine the frozen blackberries, spirulina powder, and Greek yogurt. Blend until smooth. If the mixture is too thick, you can add a splash of water to help blend it.
  • Pour the mixture into silicone molds or ice cube trays. Silicone molds are ideal because they make it easy to pop the treats out once frozen.
  • Place the molds in the freezer and let the treats freeze for at least 3-4 hours, or until completely solid.
  • Once frozen, remove the treats from the molds and let your pup enjoy!
