  • Lean protein: Lower in fat than beef or lamb, making it ideal for dogs needing a leaner diet.

  • Goat Meat โ€“ A lean, high-quality protein source rich in iron, B vitamins, and essential amino acids. It supports muscle development and is a great option for dogs with allergies to common proteins like chicken or beef.
  • Sweet Potato โ€“ A complex carbohydrate packed with fiber, beta-carotene (vitamin A), and antioxidants. Sweet potatoes are gentle on digestion and help maintain healthy skin, vision and immune function.
  • Zucchini โ€“ A hydrating veggie with vitamin C, potassium, and manganese. Zucchini is easy to digest and adds bulk and nutrients without excess calories.
  • Egg โ€“ An excellent source of complete protein, essential fats, and nutrients like biotin and selenium. Great for boosting protein content and coat health. We use the shell too for a natural calcium source crucial for bone health.
  • Kelp Powder (Optional) โ€“ Rich in iodine and trace minerals. Helps maintain healthy thyroid function and supports metabolism. Use sparinglyโ€”too much iodine can be harmful.
  • Fresh Ginger โ€“ Known for its anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits, ginger can help soothe nausea and support gut health.
  • Turmeric -Great for dogs for itโ€™s anti-inflammatory properties. Add a pinch of black pepper for enhancing the absorption of curcumin, the active compound in turmeric.
  • Coconut oil โ€“ a dog safe oil but can be substituted with olive oil.

Recipe Tips

Use Lean Goat Cuts โ€“ Trim off visible fat or use ground goat to reduce excess fat content. Lean meat is easier on your dogโ€™s digestion and helps avoid weight gain. We found it easier to cook the goat meat, then remove bones visible fat, then cut it into small pieces.

Cook Meat Thoroughly โ€“ Goat meat should be fully cooked to avoid bacteria and parasites. Stewing or simmering also makes it tender and easier for dogs to chew.

Chop Veggies Finely โ€“ Cut vegetables into small, manageable pieces to prevent choking hazards and aid digestion, especially for small or older dogs.

Storage Tips

  • Let the stew cool completely at room temperature (no more than 2 hours after cooking).
  • This prevents condensation in containers, which can lead to bacterial growth.
  • Store in BPA-free plastic, glass containers, or silicone freezer trays.
  • Portion into meal-sized servings to avoid repeated thawing and reheating.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Label containers with the date to track freshness.

Freezing

Freeze portions for up to 2 months.

Use silicone molds, freezer bags, or stackable containers for space-saving storage.

Thaw overnight in the fridge or use a warm water bath (avoid microwaving with plastic).

Serving Size

This recipe will yield about 4 to 4.5 cups of cooked dog food, depending on how much the vegetables and meat shrink during cooking.
