This is a sugar free apple sauce recipe that is used as an ingredient in dog treat making. Use it for muffins, pup cakes and dog birthday cakes.

Are Apples Safe for Dogs?

Apples make a great snack for dogs and but ensure that you remove the core and seeds. Apples are a great source of Vitamin A and C and fiber as well as being low in calories. As with all fruits, don't overfeed your dogs with them.

Try to choose organic apples if you can, to avoid the chemicals sprayed on the apples.

How to Make Sugar Free Apple Sauce

Making your own sugar free apple sauce is simple and a great ingredient to have to had for dog cake baking. Just as you would use in a vegan cake recipe, the apple sauce replaces butter for a muffin or pupcake bake.

Apples are peeled and sliced and added to a pan with water. Boil and simmer until the mixture is soft then blend. It could not be easier!

Storing Apple Sauce

Store the sauce in a sealed container or airtight jar in the fridge. It should last up to 10 days. If you want to freeze the sauce, spoon it into an ziplock bag or air tight container. This should last up to 6 months in the freezer

Ingredients
 
 

  • 4 apples
  • 1 cup water

Instructions
 

  • Peel and core the apples. Chop into pieces.
  • Place the apples in a medium saucepan and add the water.
  • Bring to the boil, then cover and simmer for 10 minutes until soft.
  • Remove from the heat and allow to cool.
  • Pour into a sealable jar and store in the fridge

Notes

Makes 2 cups which make about 10 servings.
