Is Pineapple Safe For Dogs?

Yes, pineapple is safe for dogs in moderation! Itโ€™s a great source of vitamins C and B6, as well as fiber and antioxidants. However, because pineapple is high in natural sugar, too much can lead to digestive upset or even contribute to weight gain.

When to Avoid Giving Pineapple

๐Ÿšซ If your dog has diabetes or is overweight, pineappleโ€™s high sugar content may not be the best option.
๐Ÿšซ If your dog has a sensitive stomach, start with a tiny piece to see how they react.

Can Dogs Eat Pineapple Popsicles?

Dogs can eat pineapple popsicles as long as they are made with dog-safe ingredients and no added sugars, artificial sweeteners (especially xylitol), or dairy that could upset their stomachs.

Ingredients

Just 2 ingredients make these refreshing frozen dog treats. We use strips of red pepper for the popsicle sticks, but this is entirely optional.

Bowls of pineapple and Greek yogurt, along with red pepper strips, are laid out on a marble surface as key ingredients for making refreshing pupsicles.
  • Pineapple – Pineapple is a nutrient-rich fruit that provides dogs with vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants. It helps support the immune system, aids digestion, and adds a natural sweetness to treats. Always use fresh or frozen pineappleโ€”avoid canned pineapple, as it often contains added sugars and syrups. Be sure to remove the tough core and spiky skin to prevent choking hazards or digestive issues.
  • Greek Yogurt – Plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt is an excellent source of protein, calcium, and probiotics, which can promote gut health and digestion. It also adds a creamy texture to frozen treats. However, itโ€™s important to check that the yogurt does not contain xylitol (a toxic artificial sweetener) and to ensure your dog tolerates dairy before feeding. If your dog is lactose intolerant, consider using lactose-free yogurt or coconut yogurt as an alternative.
  • Red Pepper Strips – Adds color and vitamins for the pupsicles as well as being edible! Plus I don’t trust 2 of my dogs with any wooden or plastic ice cream sticks!

How To Make Pineapple Pupsicles

It’s as simple as processing the two ingredients in a blender and freezing the mixture. I poured mine into a popsicle container and have also used small paper espresso cups, but you could also use ice cube trays for a smaller treat.

A glass blender half-filled with a light-colored liquid, perfect for blending refreshing pupsicles, sits on a black countertop.

Pour into frozen containers.

Four small cups, resembling delightful pupsicles, are filled with a creamy yellow mixture, each topped with a red vegetable stick, and arranged on a marble surface.

Add edible popsicle stick (optional) and freeze.

Remove from containers and give as a treat.

Storage

Once your pineapple dog treats are fully frozen, transfer them into an airtight container or a freezer-safe ziplock bag. This helps prevent freezer burn and keeps them fresh longer.

Frozen dog treats can last for up to 1-2 months in the freezer. Just make sure to keep them at a consistent, cold temperature. For best quality, try to use them within a month.
