Why Your Dog Will Love This Recipe

Dogs love the naturally meaty taste of ground turkey, and the addition of pumpkin gives a slightly sweet, smooth texture thatโ€™s easy to digest. Pumpkin is known for supporting healthy digestion, while quinoa and vegetables add a hearty bite and essential nutrients. The mix of flavors and textures makes this recipe especially palatable for picky eaters or older dogs.

Nutritional Balance Suggestions

While this recipe is a great base, itโ€™s always best to ensure your dogโ€™s meals meet their specific nutritional needs. To make it more balanced a few suggestions are:

  • Add a calcium source, such as ground eggshell powder or a canine supplement, to support bone health.
  • Consider a fish oil supplement for omega-3 fatty acids, which promote healthy skin, coat and joints.
  • For a boost in vitamins and minerals, you can mix in a dog-safe multivitamin or rotate different dog-safe veggies.

Ingredients

This is what we use to make this tasty turkey pumpkin dinner.

Bowls of ground turkey, cooked quinoa, pumpkin puree, green beans, kale, parsley, and a small dish of coconut oil are arranged on a white surface, each labeled with its name.
  • Lean Ground turkey โ€“ A lean source of protein to build and maintain muscle.
  • Green beans โ€“ Low-calorie veggies packed with fiber and vitamins.
  • Pumpkin puree โ€“ Great for digestion and adds natural flavor. If you use canned pumpkin puree, ensure that it’s plain and not pumpkin pie filling.
  • Coconut oil โ€“ Adds healthy fat for energy and a shiny coat. This can be substituted with olive oil.
  • Kale, chopped โ€“ Full of antioxidants, vitamins A, C, and K.
  • Parsley, chopped โ€“ A natural breath freshener with anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Cooked quinoa โ€“ A gluten-free grain rich in protein, fiber and essential amino acids. This can be omitted if you wish.

Recipe Tips

  • Use lean ground turkey to avoid excess fat, which can be hard on some dogsโ€™ stomachs.
  • Steam or lightly cook the green beans and kale to make them easier to digest.
  • Be sure to use plain pumpkin puree (not pie filling), which should contain no added sugars or spices.
  • If your dog is new to quinoa or greens, start with smaller portions and gradually increase.
  • Always let the food cool before serving or storing.
