Why Beets for Dogs?

Beets are rich in essential nutrients like fiber, vitamin C, and folate, which can help support your dogโ€™s immune system, digestion, and overall well-being. When used in moderation, beets can add both nutrition and a beautiful natural color to your homemade treats.

Ingredients

Just 4 ingredients make these easy and vibrant dog treats.

Four ingredients on a marble surface: a bowl of beetroot puree, coconut flour, a whole egg, and a bowl of peanut butter.
  • Beet puree โ€“ Provides natural sweetness, fiber, and essential vitamins. We use cooked beets and blitz in a food processor to make the beet puree.
  • Eggs โ€“ A great source of protein and helps bind the ingredients together.
  • Coconut flour โ€“ A grain-free flour that is rich in fiber and absorbs moisture well. Other dog friendly flours can be substituted.
  • Peanut butter โ€“ Adds healthy fats, protein, and a flavor dogs love (make sure itโ€™s xylitol-free!).

How To Make Beetroot Dog Treats

An easy and fun recipe to make. We initially used one egg but found the dough too dry, so added another. When using coconut flour, you need more moisture.

Recipe Tips

โœ” Adjust the texture โ€“ If the dough is too dry, add a little water or extra beet puree. If itโ€™s too wet, add a bit more coconut flour.

โœ” Peanut Butter Warning โ€“ Always use xylitol-free peanut butter, as xylitol is toxic to dogs.

โœ” If you want a crunchier treat that lasts longer, bake the cookies at a lower temperature (around 250ยฐF / 120ยฐC) for an extra 10-15 minutes to remove more moisture.

Storage

Place treats in an airtight container or resealable bag. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. This helps maintain freshness and prevents spoilage, especially since these treats contain moisture-rich ingredients like beet puree.

Freezing Cookies

Store in a freezer-safe container or ziplock bag with as much air removed as possible. They will stay fresh for up to 3 months.

When ready to serve, let them thaw at room temperature for a few minutes or pop them in the fridge overnight.
