These vibrant Beetroot Dog Treats are packed with vitamins, fiber and protein, making them a delicious and healthy snack for your furry friend. The natural sweetness of beets combined with the nutty goodness of peanut butter creates an irresistible treat that your pup will love. Plus, theyโre grain-free and low carb, using coconut flour for a healthy alternative thatโs easy on digestion.

Cutting these into a heart shaped cookie makes them a fun valentine’s day dog treat but is entirely optional. My dogs loved these which surprised me as I thought that they would not be a fan of beets!

Why Beets for Dogs?
Beets are rich in essential nutrients like fiber, vitamin C, and folate, which can help support your dogโs immune system, digestion, and overall well-being. When used in moderation, beets can add both nutrition and a beautiful natural color to your homemade treats.

Ingredients
Just 4 ingredients make these easy and vibrant dog treats.

- Beet puree โ Provides natural sweetness, fiber, and essential vitamins. We use cooked beets and blitz in a food processor to make the beet puree.
- Eggs โ A great source of protein and helps bind the ingredients together.
- Coconut flour โ A grain-free flour that is rich in fiber and absorbs moisture well. Other dog friendly flours can be substituted.
- Peanut butter โ Adds healthy fats, protein, and a flavor dogs love (make sure itโs xylitol-free!).
How To Make Beetroot Dog Treats
An easy and fun recipe to make. We initially used one egg but found the dough too dry, so added another. When using coconut flour, you need more moisture.

Add beet puree, eggs and peanut butter in a bowl.

Mix and add in coconut flour.

If the mixture is too crumbly add water or another egg.

Form into a dough.

Roll and cut out shapes.

Place on baking sheet and bake.
Recipe Tips
โ Adjust the texture โ If the dough is too dry, add a little water or extra beet puree. If itโs too wet, add a bit more coconut flour.
โ Peanut Butter Warning โ Always use xylitol-free peanut butter, as xylitol is toxic to dogs.
โ If you want a crunchier treat that lasts longer, bake the cookies at a lower temperature (around 250ยฐF / 120ยฐC) for an extra 10-15 minutes to remove more moisture.
Storage
Place treats in an airtight container or resealable bag. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. This helps maintain freshness and prevents spoilage, especially since these treats contain moisture-rich ingredients like beet puree.
Freezing Cookies
Store in a freezer-safe container or ziplock bag with as much air removed as possible. They will stay fresh for up to 3 months.
When ready to serve, let them thaw at room temperature for a few minutes or pop them in the fridge overnight.
