Ingredients

Just 4 ingredients make these ghostly Halloween dog cookies.

Ingredients on a marble surface: mashed pumpkin in a ramekin, flour in a bowl, water in a small dish, and spices in a square dish.
  • Pumpkin Purรฉe – Rich in fiber and nutrients, pumpkin purรฉe is a dog-friendly superfood that supports digestion and overall gut health. It adds natural sweetness and moisture to these treats, making them tasty and easy to chew. We use our homemade pumpkin puree but plain canned pumpkin can be used.
  • Cinnamon – A pinch of cinnamon brings a warm and comforting scent to these treats, giving them a hint of seasonal spice. Cinnamon also has anti-inflammatory properties that may benefit your dogโ€™s health. Just make sure to use Ceylon cinnamon, which is safer for dogs than the common Cassia variety.
  • Rice Flour – A gluten-free flour thatโ€™s gentle on dogsโ€™ stomachs, rice flour creates a smooth dough thatโ€™s easy to work with. It adds structure to the treats while keeping them light and crunchy.
  • Coconut Oil -This healthy fat adds a delicious flavor and beneficial nutrients to the treats. Coconut oil can help promote a shiny coat, healthy skin and boost energy levels.

Recipe Tips

If the dough is too dry, add more pumpkin puree until it becomes pliable.

For some variety, consider adding a tablespoon of peanut butter (make sure itโ€™s xylitol-free) or a sprinkle of dried parsley, which is safe for dogs and freshens their breath.

Get creative with different Halloween-themed cookie cutters like bones, bats, or spooky shapes!

Storage

For longer shelf life, place the treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Theyโ€™ll stay fresh for up to one month this way. Refrigeration is a good option if you live in a warmer or humid climate.

Freezing

Freeze the treats in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to three months. To prevent them from sticking together, you can freeze them on a baking sheet first, then transfer them to the bag. Just thaw the treats at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
