Is Ground Beef Good For Cats?

Ground beef can be good for cats in moderation, but there are a few important things to keep in mind:

  • High in protein: Cats are obligate carnivores, and beef provides a solid source of animal protein that supports muscle development and overall health.
  • Rich in nutrients: Beef contains vitamins like B12, iron, and zinc, which contribute to energy, a healthy coat, and a strong immune system.
  • Tasty and satisfying: Many cats enjoy the flavor of beef, making it a good option for treats or as part of homemade cat food.

Why Your Cat Will Love This Recipe

Cats are natural carnivores, and this recipe brings together two irresistible proteins-beef and tuna-into one tasty bite. The tuna’s rich aroma will grab your cat’s attention right away, while the beef gives it a hearty flavor and a satisfying texture. Since these treats are made fresh at home, they’re free from unnecessary fillers or preservatives, making them not just delicious but also healthier than many store-bought options.

Ingredients

Just 4 ingredients make these homemade cat treat recipe.

Four labeled ingredients on a wooden surface for a homemade cat treat recipe: lean ground beef, canned tuna in water, oat flour, and an egg.
  • Lean ground beef โ€“ Provides high-quality protein and essential amino acids to keep your cat strong and healthy.
  • Tuna โ€“ A tasty source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids that support skin and coat health.
  • Egg โ€“ Adds protein while helping to bind the treats together.
  • Oat flour โ€“ A gentle, fiber-rich flour that helps give the treats structure. This can be substituted with other cat friendly flour. Although we only use a few tablespoons of the flour, I think that this could be omitted and maybe use half of the egg to bind the mixture.

How To Make Surf & Turf Cat Treats

We used a silicone treat mold that I purchased online to make these treats but you could roll the treats into small balls or cut into bite sized pieces.

Recipe Tips

  • Use water-packed tuna (not oil or brine) to keep the treats healthier.
  • You can pulse the tuna in a food processor before mixing for a smoother texture.
  • If the dough feels too sticky, add a little extra oat flour until manageable.
  • Keep the treats small so theyโ€™re the right size for your cat to enjoy safely.

Storage

Store cooled treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

For longer storage, you can freeze them for up to 2 months. Simply thaw in the fridge before serving.
