I have a popular cucumber bite recipe which is simple but refreshingly tasty, so thought I would try something similar for the dogs as a summer treat. Salmon and cucumber are a classic combination which are both good for dogs.

The crunchy cucumber pairs perfectly with the rich salmon filling, while the yogurt adds a creamy texture dogs love. Whether you’re making a special snack for your pup or looking for an easy enrichment treat, these cucumber cups are a fun and nutritious option.

Our dogs loved this recipe for the cream salmon but one left half chewed cucumber slices, which Teddy devoured. He loved this treat and it would be perfect for a hot day, in place of a frozen dog treat.

Ingredients

Just 4 ingredients make this simple cucumber dog treat.

Tinned salmon, a cucumber, fresh dill, and a measuring jug of Greek yoghurt are arranged on a white surface, each ingredient labelled.

English Cucumber

English cucumber is a crunchy, hydrating vegetable that makes a refreshing low-calorie base for these treats. It contains a high water content, which can help keep dogs hydrated, especially during warmer months. Its mild flavor pairs perfectly with rich fillings like salmon and yogurt.

Canned Salmon

Salmon is an excellent source of protein and healthy omega-3 fatty acids, which can support your dog’s skin, coat, joints, and overall health. Using canned salmon in water makes this recipe quick and convenient while still providing plenty of flavor dogs love.

Greek Yogurt

Plain Greek yogurt adds creaminess to the filling while also providing protein and beneficial probiotics that may support digestive health. It helps bind the salmon mixture together into a smooth, tasty filling.

Dill

Dill adds a fresh burst of flavor to the recipe and complements the salmon beautifully. In small amounts, dill can be a safe herb for dogs and adds a little extra aroma that can make the treats even more enticing.

Recipe Tips

  • Use plain Greek yogurt only – Avoid flavored or sweetened yogurts that may contain xylitol or added sugars.
  • Choose salmon packed in water – Drain the canned salmon well before mixing to avoid a watery filling.
  • Remove large bones if needed – Most canned salmon bones are soft and safe, but you can mash them thoroughly or remove them if preferred.
  • Pat the cucumber dry – After scooping the centers, lightly pat the cucumber slices dry so the filling stays in place better.
  • Serve chilled – Refrigerating the cucumber cups for 15–20 minutes before serving makes them even more refreshing.
  • Adjust the size for your dog – Cut smaller cucumber sections for little dogs and larger pieces for bigger breeds.
  • Fresh dill works best – A small amount adds extra flavor, but don’t overdo it as too much herb can overpower the recipe.

Storage Instructions

Refrigerator: Store the salmon cucumber cups in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Because cucumber releases moisture over time, they are best enjoyed fresh.

Serve chilled: These treats taste best cold straight from the refrigerator, especially on warm days.

Do not leave out too long: Since the filling contains yogurt and salmon, avoid leaving the treats at room temperature for more than 1–2 hours.

Freezing: Freezing is not recommended, as the cucumber can become watery and soft once thawed. However, the salmon yogurt filling can be frozen separately in small portions for up to 1 month.

Make ahead tip: If preparing in advance, store the cucumber slices and salmon filling separately, then assemble just before serving for the best texture.
