We have an air fryer dog treat that uses salmon skin, but this recipe uses a whole salmon fillet. The salmon skin recipe is great for any left over salmon skin when you are cooking for yourself (as long as it's unseasoned)

CAN MY DOGS EAT SALMON?

Salmon is a great good to give to your dog as it is high in protein and a healthy source of omega-3, vitamin B-12 and fatty acids which helps keep their coat shiny.

Elderly dogs or those with arthritis can benefit from salmon as it can help reduce inflammation.

Salmon should be thoroughly cooked to ensure that any bacteria or parasites on the fish are eliminated. It should reach an internal minimum temperature of 145 degrees, according to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.

Limit salmon for your dog to once a week and remove any bones prior to cooking.

Remember to go slowly when introducing new foods. And we recommend checking with your veterinarian first if your dog has any digestive issues or other health concerns.

INGREDIENTS

All you need to make homemade salmon jerky is a salmon fillet. No seasoning, no other ingredients.

HOW TO MAKE SALMON JERKY DOGS TREAT

For this recipe we baked the salmon in the oven but if you have a dehydrator it can be made in there.

To make this salmon dog treat recipe it is as easy as:

  • Thinly slice the salmon
  • Bake until dry and crispy.

That's it! Possibly the easiest dog treat you can bake!

SALMON JERKY IN THE DEHYDRATOR

To make these salmon dogs treats in a dehydrator, slice thinly and place the strips on parchment lined dehydrator trays. Dehydrate at the highest heat for 4 to 10 hours depending on how thin the salmon strips are.

STORAGE

Once cooked, store the salmon jerky in an airtight container in a dark space for up to 3 weeks or in the freezer for up to three months.
