This was the first time I had introduced duck to my dogs and they loved these treats! Teddy was whining to have a taste when they were baking, which turned into a demanding bark as I was finishing taking photos of the treats, so they must smell good to dogs too!

Can Dogs Eat Duck?

Yes, dogs can absolutely eat duck! Duck is a high-quality protein that’s rich in iron, amino acids, and essential nutrients that support your dog’s overall health. It’s also a great alternative for dogs who may have sensitivities to more common proteins like chicken or beef. As always, duck should be cooked plainly and served in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

Why Your Dog Will Love These Treats

These duck liver dog treats tick all the boxes for flavour and texture. The duck liver adds a rich, meaty taste that dogs instinctively crave, while the sweet potato brings a natural sweetness and soft texture. Combined with oat flour for gentle digestion, these treats are not only tasty but also easy on sensitive stomachs. Soft, chewy, and packed with goodness—your dog won’t be able to resist!

We loved this recipe as it only has 4 ingredients, was easy to make. Duck liver is now sitting in our freezer to make this recipe again! It’s not something I see in every supermarket but Waitrose in the UK usually has it.

Ingredients

Four labelled ingredients on a white surface: cooked duck liver in a ramekin, sweet potato purée in a bowl, a whole egg, and a measuring jug filled with oat flour.

Duck Liver – is the star of these treats, packed with rich flavour that dogs absolutely love. It’s a nutrient powerhouse, full of iron, vitamin A, and essential amino acids that support your dog’s overall health. Because liver is very rich, a little goes a long way—making it perfect for treats rather than everyday feeding.

Sweet PotatoSweet potato adds natural sweetness and a soft texture to these treats. It’s high in fibre, which supports healthy digestion, and contains vitamins like A and C for immune health. It also helps bind the ingredients together while keeping the treats moist

Egg – Egg acts as a natural binder in this recipe, helping everything hold together during baking. It’s also a great source of protein and healthy fats, contributing to your dog’s muscle health and shiny coat.

Oat FlourOat flour is a gentle, gluten-free option that’s easy on your dog’s stomach. It provides a good source of fibre and helps give structure to the treats, creating a soft, slightly chewy texture that’s perfect for dogs of all ages.

How To Make Chicken Liver Dog Treats

With this recipe the duck liver is cooked before making these treats. We boiled the liver for 5-7 minutes until tender and cooked through. Then cooled before adding to the other ingredients.

Place on a baking sheet and bake until golden.

Recipe Tips

For the best consistency, blend or finely mash the cooked duck liver before mixing. This helps distribute the flavor evenly and creates a softer, more uniform treat.

The moisture in sweet potatoes can vary. If your dough feels too sticky, add a little more oat flour. If it’s too dry, add a splash of water or a bit more mashed sweet potato.

For softer treats bake for a shorter time. For crunchier treats bake a little longer or leave them in the oven (switched off) to dry out

Flip over half way through cooking for an even bake.

Duck has a strong aroma when baking which your dog will love. You may want to keep those kitchen windows open!
