CAN DOGS EAT GROUND TURKEY

Turkey is a great meat for dogs for it's protein content. It's a great source of potassium, niacin and selenium. Lean ground turkey meat is the best option for dogs.

HOW TO COOK GROUND TURKEY FOR DOGS

Ground turkey for dogs can be cooked in a pan or in a stew. It should not be seasoned as you would for humans though.

INDREDIENTS

Organ meats are an important part of a dog's diet for there their many vitamins and minerals but the general rule of thumb is that they should only comprise 10 to 15 % of their diet.

For this turkey dog food recipe we have used beef kidney and beef liver which could be swapped with other livers, kidneys, chicken gizzards or even hearts.

DOG FOOD TOPPERS

To give our dogs extra nutrition we had added some toppers to the turkey stew when served.

  • Quail Egg - we give them raw for the protein and the calcium in the egg shells.
  • Hemp seed hearts - great source of fiber, amino acids, complete proteins and omega-3
  • Sea Kelp powder - a good source of iodine, magnesium, potassium, iron and calcium.
  • Blueberries - a healthy source of antioxidants

Adding dog food toppers to your dog food can help balance the nutrition in their food. We also use these ingredients when feeding them:

  • Sardines
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Eggs
  • Spirulina
  • Pumpkin puree
  • Bone broth

Remember to go slowly when introducing new foods. And we recommend checking with your veterinarian first if your dog has any digestive issues or other health concerns.

HOW TO MAKE THIS TURKEY DOG FOOD RECIPE

This turkey stew for dogs is made in one pot. It's as simple as chopping the vegetables and adding them to a large pot with the meats and water. Boil, simmer, cool and serve!

When the turkey stew has cooled, chop the cooked liver and kidney in to small pieces to add digestion.

For extra ease of digestion, place the cooled cooked food in a blender and pulse until smooth.

STORAGE

Once cooled, store this turkey stew in a sealed container in the fridge. It will last up to 4 days.

This dog food recipe can be frozen in airtight containers or in zip lock bags. It will freeze for up to 3 months. Defrost thoroughly before serving.

HOW MUCH TO FEED

We suggest recommend feeding about ½ cup (4oz) of food for every 20 pounds of body weight. This recommendation is for 2 servings per day. This is just a guideline and there is a chart below. Always consult your veterinarian about the best serving size for your dog.

I think your puppy would love this dish and yes you could make this in a slow cooker. The liver does have a slight smell but it's not too strong. Personally, I hate handling liver but the things you do for your dogs! Hope your puppy likes it!

    5 stars
Made the turkey stew recipe just kept it simple no liver or kidney and no topping yet will introduce them slowly as my dog has a sensitive stomach.
I am absolutely delighted with this recipe and would definitely recommend it to others.
I was a bit confused as the amount it made was as it states around 3lb but that was the drained weight without the water used to cook in.
I emailed Angela who kindly replied immediately and explained the water could be blended with some of the cooked meal to provide an additional topper.
Thank you to Angela for creating fantastic recipe and very quick reply it is greatly appreciated by me and my dog 🐕
